Rogue Stars: First impressions

Finally! I’ve had my first foray into Rogue Stars. My bio-engineered simian mercenaries successfully bid on a contract to assassinate a civilian target on Valtius IV. No questions asked. A quick job for easy credits. What could go wrong!?

Broken Legions: First impressions

I’ve been chomping at the bit to try two recent rule additions to the Battleshed library, both are from Osprey Publishing with their distinctive blue livery and captivating cover picture. One is Rogue Stars, the other is Broken Legions. It was pretty much fifty-fifty which one would get to be played first, with Mark Latham’s skirmishing in a faux Roman Empire winning out.

A brief encounter with a Dragon Rampant

A dip into fantasy army battles this week with my first play of the new ruleset on the block, Daniel Mersey's Dragon Rampant. Except there were no dragons. Or rampaging. There were knights who say 'Ni!' though.

Foray into Felstad

Frostgrave. There has been quite a buzz around this new fantasy skirmish system within our hobby, not least because it's supported by a tantalizing range of miniatures from Osprey Publishing and a North Star Military Figures. 

The King Is Dead!

As my reader knows, I'm not adverse to a bit of board gaming. Indeed I have accumulated a reasonable collection that fights its own corner, literally, in the Battleshed. Even over at my local club board games are regularly represented such as the likes of Firefly, Battlestar Galactica and the club's home-grown game, NUMA: The Affinity Chronicles. Of course, having the availability of multiple players ensures much hilarity, devious skulduggery and adds to the fun.

So its intriguing that the venerable Osprey Publishing, who will be familiar to many, are embarking on their very first board game, The King Is Dead. It surprised me that it was their first! Details are a wee bit sketchy currently, but as their article below says, 'Watch this space!...'

The Wild West Show and Crazy Europeans in a town called Obsession

Surreal goings-on in the town called Obsession. The talk in Rogan's Bar was all about strangers in the town, questioning many of the local traders. Some said they were scouts from an unknown outlaw gang. Others heard rumours they were from Wild Bill Hickok's Wild West Show. Indeed the MacDoogle brothers were staunchly sticking to their story about 'Europeans' slinking about the outskirts of the town. But the brothers were usually jaked anyway.
