Professor Belfry-Chuffnell and the Yates Brothers

Three upstanding gentlemen joined the Battleshed's In Her Majesty's Name barracks this week: The Brothers Yates and Professor Donald Belfry-Chuffnell.

The Warehouse: conclusion

Akhenaton uses Clouds Men's Minds on Mohan Singh

Lord Curr adjusted his large calibre Holland & Holland hunting rifle and aimed again. The luminous cross hairs of the monocular targeting array focused on the foreign woman as she stood over Cartwright's drugged, motionless body. There was another loud rumble of thunder, the rain intensifying into a deluge. The image in the sighting reticule blurred from rain water smearing the lens. The Peer quickly wiped it with his thumb before refocusing on the woman. But she was gone. Cartwright's unmoving body was still lying in the wet but the woman had disappeared.

The Warehouse: part three

A gunshot. Lady Felicity promptly drew her 'daughters' from concealed holsters secured within her plain lilac skirt. The custom-made Italian pearl handled pistols glinted dully in the diffuse light. She picked up her pace, turning into a grim lane behind the old warehouse. At the other end there was uproar. The Peer's wolfhound was ensnared in a frenzied confrontation with strangely attired assailants. The sounds of the animal's growls and sonorous barks reverberated down the soot-slick brick walls. Lady Felicity started forward but a strange shimmering in the air ahead caused her to check her stride. Then, a stocky, vaguely human form began to coalesce out of the very air.

The Warehouse: part two

Captain Smyth tries to help defend Dakota

Captain William Smyth, late of the Grenadier Guards, had got the morbs. Shouldering his Martini–Henry rifle, he absently trudged towards the plank and batten doors barring the entrance to the dilapidated industrial warehouse.

The Warehouse: part one

Lord Curr's Company are attacked by the Servants of Ra Cultists

November, 1886. Leaden grey clouds draped listlessly over the abandoned soot stained industrial buildings somewhere in the north of England. Lord Curr thrust his cold-numbed hand deep into his jacket whilst his other tightly gripped his hunting rifle, slick with wet after the recent downpour. Dakota, his American Wolfhound, sat disconsolate and trembling at his side, the dog's fawny-white fur hanging lax and dripping wet. Muffled scrapes and wet booted slaps from the approaching Company detachment sounded nearby as they shuffled into position. Ahead, the warehouse loomed above the grime-slick cobbled streets.

IHMN Campaign: A town called Obsession

The third battle of our continuing In Her Majesty's Name campaign.

After the retreat from Scorpion Hollow, Lord Curr's Company are next planning a desperate attempt to rescue the wolf-dog Dakota who's being restrained in a small south-western US river-side town by the name of Obsession. The Company also plan to foil a plan by one of the local deputies to trade a copy of the coded plans found attached to Dakota's collar.

For the complete campaign back story and to find out the story between battles I recommend you visit my campaign page before continuing.

But if you wish to just get straight to the battle report then read on...

Bad Jack is loose!

Lord Edward Ronan Curr has been given an opportunity to go hunting. And to hunt a reported monster no less! How could he refuse? With his custom hunting rifle freshly cleaned he assembles a select few from his Q Division and makes for a remote laboratory where the quarry was last seen...

The Martians are coming!

Doh! Just as I thought my shopping list was all set for Carronade '15 on Saturday - the annual wargaming show from Falkirk and District wargames club - an enticing free, 17 page supplement has been added to the In Her Majesty's Name Bonus material page, The Martian Invasion!

For me, this hits the sweet spot - VSF and aliens! I can see another burst of miniature purchasing coming on.

I've always been a big fan of the original HG Wells book, along with the various film, TV, radio, musical and genre literature produced over the years. Maybe my purchasing of Sarissa SF buildings recently was spookily prescient.  The Martian Invasion, by Craig Cartmell & Charles Murton, (first published in Great Britain in 2015 by Wargames, Soldiers& Strategy Magazine, issue 76), introduces the supplement as...

If you go down to a foggy woods today...

Continuing our preparations before embarking on a In Her Majesty's Name campaign, Arabianknight and I played through another test game using the 'Catch the Pigeon' scenario and the 'Pea Soup' scenario 'complication' from the core rulebook. We both deployed 350 points from our respective companies, Lord Curr's Q Division and the Victoria Palace Company, which allowed us to experiment with new characters - especially me, as Prof. D. Belfry Chuffnell III made his debut at the controls of his Johnson Mk. XII 'Cherokee' Light Military Walker, armed with a rather overstated Steam Fist and a water-cooled machine gun!

Lord Curr in the Company of Victoria's Palace

Last year, possibly even the year before, Arabianknight and I discussed running an 'In Her Majesty's Name' campaign. And now, finally, we are on the cusp of that proposition. The Companies are painted and campaign planning is afoot.

Over the last few months my painting table has been occupied with seventeen miniatures from various sources that I committed to painting before I embarked on an IHMN campaign. Only one is still being 'kitted out', Prof. D. Belfry Chuffnell and his Johnson MK XII Cherokee 'Walker', but the professor will be ready by the time the campaign is launched.

Outlaw Ned the Bed gets the wrong end of a Sonic Screwdriver

Continuing our foray into In Her Majesty's Name, Arabianknight and I played another casual experimental game using the same Companies we used previously for the scenario set in the Old west town of Obsession. This time I was over at Arabianknight's fine gaming establishment, where once again he'd set up a suitably enticing table using his ever expanding range of DaveGraffam models.

The Wild West Show and Crazy Europeans in a town called Obsession

Surreal goings-on in the town called Obsession. The talk in Rogan's Bar was all about strangers in the town, questioning many of the local traders. Some said they were scouts from an unknown outlaw gang. Others heard rumours they were from Wild Bill Hickok's Wild West Show. Indeed the MacDoogle brothers were staunchly sticking to their story about 'Europeans' slinking about the outskirts of the town. But the brothers were usually jaked anyway.

Newton's Third Law

Since the Dwarf Standard Bearer and the two reinforcements, (Red Hat and Curnden Craw) for my SoBH campaign warband are almost complete, the next miniature in the queue for the paint table will be the first for my 'In Her Majesty's Name' project, a crazy Lead Adventures miniature purchased at Vapnartak 2014 earlier this year.

House rules will be required for the RPG recoil ;)

Intriguing, and just a tad bizarre!

Intriguing, and just a tad bizarre, our inaugural game of In Her Majesty's Name over at Sam's Hobbyshed yesterday evening.
